AKRON, OH, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Finite Fiber will bring a technical focus on short-fiber reinforcement to the 2026 Global Polymer Summit, Sept. 28–30 in Louisville, Kentucky, where the company will exhibit at Booth 515 and participate in the event’s technical programming for the rubber, elastomer and tire industries.
Technical Director Vishal Chaurasia will present “From Rubber to Composite: Short Fiber Reinforcement in Elastomer Compounds” on Monday, Sept. 28, from 8:30–8:55 a.m. in Main Concourse, Room M111. The presentation is part of the summit’s Advancements in Tire Materials & Compounding track.
The session will look at short-cut fiber reinforcement as a way to modify elastomer compounds beyond conventional rubber formulations, with an emphasis on practical material selection and processing considerations.
Short-Fiber Reinforcement in Rubber Compounding
Synthetic fibers including aramid, nylon, polyester and carbon, as well as natural fibers such as cotton and cellulose, can introduce different performance characteristics depending on their morphology, length, loading and orientation within a compound.
The presentation will examine how those variables influence stress-strain behavior, stiffness, tear and abrasion resistance, and anisotropic properties. It will also address one of the more challenging aspects of fiber-reinforced rubber: achieving effective load transfer between the fiber and elastomer matrix.
Fiber-matrix adhesion, mechanical interlocking and chemical bonding all play a role, but reinforcement performance also depends heavily on what happens during production. Dispersion, low-bulk-density handling, mixing and formulation balance can determine whether a promising material performs effectively at manufacturing scale.
“Short-fiber reinforcement gives compounders another way to tailor rubber performance, but the results depend on more than simply adding fiber,” said Chaurasia. “Fiber selection, geometry, dispersion and the overall formulation have to work together. The intent of this session is to focus on those practical relationships and how they can be applied in real compounds.”
The session will also explore formulation adjustments involving fiber, carbon black and oil, along with engineered fiber formats and pelletized masterbatches developed to improve handling and manufacturability. Case studies will illustrate how formulation changes can target specific performance improvements without sacrificing processability.
Sustainability will be part of the discussion as well, including potential uses for recycled and bio-based fibers in elastomer applications.
