A Commitment Shaped by Experience
Sims’ approach was shaped partly by financial hardship his family experienced in 2009. After answering a Craigslist advertisement for a gold-buying job, he learned how precious metals were tested, weighed and valued. He also met customers selling wedding rings, family heirlooms and other meaningful possessions to cover groceries, utility bills, transportation and emergencies.
Sims sometimes watched people in need accept far less than their possessions were worth. That experience influenced a principle he later brought to Gold Kings: People facing financial pressure should still be treated fairly.
After 18 months in the industry, Sims helped found Gold Kings in 2011. He opened Gold Kings of Snellville in January 2026.
For Sims, surpassing 100 Google reviews represents more than an early business milestone. He sees it as evidence that customers value an honest, understandable evaluation process.
