Emergency response provides food, hygiene supplies, and shelter materials to help vulnerable households recover from devastating flash floods
SOUTHFIELD, MI, UNITED STATES, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Life for Relief and Development (LIFE), a global humanitarian relief and development organization, has delivered emergency assistance to families impacted by severe flash flooding in Nepal’s Nuwakot District, providing critical food, hygiene, and shelter support to households working to recover from the disaster.
The emergency response follows destructive flash flooding that affected communities in and around Bidur Municipality, including the Devighat area, where families experienced damage to homes, loss of household belongings, and disruption to daily life.
To help address urgent humanitarian needs, LIFE supported the distribution of emergency food packages, hygiene kits, blankets, mattresses, bedsheets, and mosquito nets to vulnerable families across multiple locations in the affected district.
The assistance was designed to help households meet immediate nutritional, sanitation, and shelter needs while reducing the hardships many families continue to face during the recovery process.
“Natural disasters can change a family’s life in a matter of hours,” said Dr. Hany Saqr, CEO of LIFE. “Our priority is to ensure that families have access to essential support during the most difficult moments of recovery. Through this response, we were able to provide emergency assistance that helped affected households meet immediate needs and begin restoring stability to their daily lives.”
Among the beneficiaries was Purna Bahadur Timilsane, a father of six from Devighat, whose home and belongings were damaged by the flood.
“We did not know how we would manage after the flood,” Timilsane said.
After receiving emergency food assistance and hygiene supplies, his family was able to address some of its most urgent needs.
“For us, this support came at the right time. It may seem like a simple relief package, but when your home has been affected and you are worried about your family, these things mean a lot. We felt that someone was there to support us when we were going through a difficult time,” he added.
Another beneficiary, Upreti Thapa, received essential shelter items, including a blanket, mattress, bedsheet, and mosquito net after the flood disrupted normal living conditions.
“These are small things, but they are very important for us,” Thapa said.
Emergency distributions were carried out across three locations in Bidur Municipality, prioritizing households facing the greatest immediate needs. The assistance helped families secure basic necessities while easing some of the financial pressures associated with disaster recovery.
Although the emergency response has concluded, many affected families continue to face ongoing recovery challenges as they work to repair homes, replace lost belongings, and restore normal living conditions.
“LIFE remains committed to standing with vulnerable communities affected by disasters around the world,” said Saqr. “While emergency relief addresses immediate needs, long-term recovery often requires continued support to help families rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.”
