WINCHESTER, VA, UNITED STATES, August 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Indian Neck, VA – Rappahannock Enterprises, LLC and Netmaker Communications, LLC today announced the launch of Wihōkan Technologies, LLC, a tribally affiliated joint venture established to deliver secure, resilient, and interoperable information technology solutions across federal, state, local, Tribal, and critical infrastructure environments.
Wihōkan Technologies combines the economic development mission and sovereign leadership of the Rappahannock Tribe with Netmaker Communications’ telecommunications, public safety communications, and technology modernization experience. The joint venture is headquartered in Indian Neck, Virginia.
“The name Wihōkan speaks directly to what we want this company to represent – to protect, to guard, and to keep safe,” said Chief Anne Richardson of the Rappahannock Tribe. “For the Rappahannock people, those responsibilities extend to our community, our lands, our heritage, and the opportunities we create for future generations. Wihōkan Technologies allows us to carry those values forward while building a business capable of delivering important technology and public safety solutions for Tribal nations, government agencies, and communities.”
“Wihōkan gives us the opportunity to combine the strengths of two organizations around a common mission,” said Jon Marcy, President and CEO of Netmaker Communications, LLC. “The Rappahannock Tribe brings heritage, leadership, and a long-term commitment to community. Netmaker Communications brings technical depth and execution experience. Together, we will deliver modernization solutions that are technically sound, operationally responsible, and built for lasting value.”
The Meaning Behind Wihōkan
Wihōkan (pronounced wee-HO-kahn) is derived from an Eastern Algonquian linguistic root meaning “to protect, to guard, or to keep safe.” The name reflects the sacred trust and responsibility held by sovereign nations to safeguard the well-being of their people and land. For the joint venture, that meaning defines a shared purpose: protect communities, strengthen critical infrastructure, and create sustainable opportunity for the future.
