Twin1 AI, the privacy-first platform that gives every professional an AI-powered digital twin to scale their expertise, today announced its launch from stealth alongside a $20 million seed funding round. The round was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners and Aramco Ventures.
The funding will be used to expand the company’s teams in San Mateo, CA and London, UK, invest in go-to-market efforts, and further develop its core technology.
Founded in 2025 by co-founders Dr. Lewis Z. Liu, Tom Cahn, Huiting Liu and Dr. Jonathan Budd, Twin1 AI is building the coordination and trust layer for enterprise AI, pairing every professional with an AI-powered digital twin that preserves their judgment, relationships and context, and scales their expertise across the organization.
With Twin1, the user controls what data the Twin accesses and how that context is shared, keeping knowledge human, permission-aware and firmly under their control. The digital twins are grounded in the user’s work context, including emails, meetings, documents, and workplace systems. These digital twins operate where professionals work across tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, and SharePoint and supercharge professionals’ AI agents with deeper context and know-how.
Key capabilities of the Twin1 AI platform include:
- An individual digital Twin for every human: a continuously evolving model of each person’s knowledge, context, and judgment that can autonomously answer questions and act on their behalf.
- Privacy and governance controls: six interlocking layers of rules-based and AI-based controls governing both peer-to-peer and peer-to-AI interactions, combining enterprise policies, inherited permissions and human approval to ensure information is shared only when authorized.
- The Twin Network: a coordination and trust layer formed by peer-to-peer governance, communication preferences and protocols, through which individual Twins can identify the right people, gather permission-aware knowledge and coordinate work across an organization, without overriding the control of the humans they represent.
- An enterprise MCP server: a secure interface through which AI agents and enterprise tools can access governed context from an individual Twin or the wider Twin Network, and take action from that context.
- AI-mediated communications: Twins operate inside Slack, Microsoft Teams and email, using social and peer-to-peer context to support communication between humans to humans and humans to AI.
- Sovereign AI: gives enterprises control over their AI destiny by keeping their data, proprietary knowledge and governance policies under their control, while supporting flexible SaaS, single-tenant, and private-cloud deployment models and reducing dependence on any single model or infrastructure provider.
“In every knowledge organization, the human is the atomic unit of knowledge. The opportunity with AI is not to flatten people’s expertise into generic output, but to connect and amplify their unique knowledge, judgment and context,” said Dr. Lewis Liu, co-founder and CEO of Twin1 AI. “Our belief is that AI should work for people, not be done to them. Twin1 gives every professional a digital twin that preserves and amplifies their knowledge, judgment and voice, while keeping privacy, permissions, and human agency at the core. We are building a future where expertise compounds, rather than collapses into the average.”
Twin1 AI has been deployed with partners across legal, financial services, and energy for over a year, with customers reporting that the platform automates 30-50% of the communications work done by knowledge workers. Customers using Twin1 include law firms such as Linklaters, Orrick, and Dechert, financial institutions such as Customers Bank, as well as energy companies such as Aegis Energy.
“Twin1 provides the opportunity to mine our collective data, and it is one of the most exciting developments in the practice today – because of the way it will enhance our client advice and make practicing more interesting,” said Wendy Butler Curtis, Chief Innovation Officer at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
“Enterprise knowledge has become increasingly fragmented, creating real friction in how organizations access and use expertise,” said Elliott Robinson, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. “Twin1 AI is building an individual-first context layer that allows users to extend their knowledge across teams and systems. We believe this represents an important shift in how AI can be applied to knowledge work while preserving control and ownership.”
“Twin1 is the purest expression of the coordination layer we believe will define the next generation of enterprise AI,” said Brian Hirsch, co-founder and partner at Tribeca Venture Partners. “It transforms fragmented human knowledge into trusted organizational intelligence, allowing people and AI agents to coordinate securely and make better decisions together.”
“Serving the world’s largest and most highly regulated enterprises requires far more than checking the standard security and compliance boxes,” said Daniel Carter, Managing Director of Aramco Ventures US. “The Twin1 team of repeat founders combines a deep understanding of how these organizations operate and their AI governance needs with the experience required to make AI work in the enterprise.”
Twin1’s seed funding round also included participation from EJF Ventures, Tin Alley Ventures, AGI House Ventures, Neo, F-Prime, Btech Consortium, Antiportfolio Ventures, Lakestar, Notion Capital, Insiders, strategic investment from Orrick, as well as angel investors: Dawn Capital Co-Founder Haakon Overli, Wiz Co-Founder Roy Reznick, Notable Capital Managing Partner Hans Tung, former McKinsey Senior Partner Kevin Buehler, prominent climate tech investor Robert Trezona, and the former Global Co-head of Macquarie Capital Dan Wong. The round included participation from several investors who backed Eigen Technologies, the founders’ previous venture, reflecting continued confidence in the team’s ability to build enterprise AI companies.
