A dental record patients actually own: Intake Dental launches the Dental Passport

Free patient-owned record lives in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and travels to any dental office — including offices that have never heard of the company

DOVER, DE, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Intake Dental today announced the general availability of the Dental Passport, a free, patient-owned dental record that lives in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and travels with the patient to any dental office.

Almost every record a dental patient has access to today belongs to someone else. Practice portals end at one office’s front door. X-rays live inside imaging software. Patients who change dentists — or move, or travel — typically start over with a paper health history and a request form, and their new dentist works without the images taken six months ago. Not only that, but patients may struggle in foreign countries on filling out health history forms and being able to properly communicate what they’ve had done previously.

The Dental Passport inverts that. The patient holds the record: health history, x-rays, insurance details and a saved signature, carried in the phone wallet they already use for boarding passes. A scan of the pass at a participating front desk checks the patient in with intake already completed and insurance already on file. For every other office, the passport sends a verified records packet by email or fax — which means it works with practices that use none of Intake Dental’s software.

Access is granted, not assumed. Offices request records; the patient approves on their phone; every access is logged. Nothing is shared silently.
“Patients have always been told the records are theirs, and then discovered that what that means in practice is a printout, if you ask, and a wait,” said Jordan Thomas, DMD, founder of Intake Dental and a practicing dentist. “I wanted the version where a patient walks into any office in the world and the dentist can see the patient records in any language. That is better dentistry, not just better paperwork. It’s the difference between guessing and knowing.”

The passport reads in 19 languages, and the receiving office still gets everything in its own — a gap that matters for patients who travel for care or move between countries, and for the offices who then have to treat them without a history.

Two capabilities extend beyond the record itself. With consent, each visit is summarized in plain language: what was done, what it means, what happens next. And patients can send their records to a second office for an online second opinion — useful for anyone holding a quote for major work who wants another clinician to look at it before committing.

The Dental Passport is free to create, free to keep and free to use, with no advertising and no data sold. It is also free for a dental office to accept.
“We are the custodian, not the owner,” Thomas said. “If we ever start behaving like the owner, patients should leave and take the record with them. That’s rather the point.”
